The Tigers replaced reigning premier Sandhurst in the top five with their 21.26 (152) to 7.8 (50) victory over the Magpies at Camp Reserve.
The battling Magpies were unable to curb the brilliance of the dynamic Weightman, who slotted 13 goals – the most by a Tiger since Steven Reaper bagged 14 against Kangaroo Flat in 1998.
Weightman’s haul of 13 followed his 10 against Maryborough the previous week and he now leads the league goalkicking with 72.
Having led by 31 points at half-time, 9.10 to 5.3, the Tigers put the foot down after the main break, adding 12.16 to 2.5 to improve to 7-4-1.
“Castlemaine to its credit worked very hard in the first half and I thought for a lot of the time had the game on their terms,” Kyneton coach Luke Beattie said.
“In the second half we worked a lot more on our spread and were able to open the game up to get a lot more entries inside 50.”
Weightman, Ethan Foreman on the wing and Max O’Sullivan (four goals) led the best for the Tigers.
Simon Seddon kicked four of Castlemaine’s seven goals. Anthony Robins and Kalan Huntly were named best.
