St Paul’s Cathedral
This Sunday is the sixth after Pentecost. The Gospel readings the past few weeks have identified for us the vision God has for the growth of his Kingdom. God in his great abundance sows the seed of faith with seemingly reckless abandon, in poor and rich soil alike. As members of Christ’s Body, we are called to tend these soils, watering them with his life – giving word and nourishing them with the sacraments of grace he gifts to his Church. We all are given gifts to encourage the growth of these seeds, with faith and hope and love. Whether you are skilled in music, or art; singing, or writing; listening, or sharing – we are all gardeners in God’s Kingdom! Services this Sunday are 8am – said Eucharist, 9.30am – choral Eucharist, 11am – celebration Eucharist. For more about St Paul’s visit www.stpaulsbendigo.org.au or find us on facebook.
Eaglehawk
A warm friendly environment is offered each Friday at 6pm at the Saltworks free community meal. The meal is held in the Anglican Church Hall, 63 High Street, Eaglehawk. All are very welcome, especially anyone who is finding life a little lonely or is perhaps struggling to make ends meet. The organisers of the Community Meal are very grateful to The City of Greater Bendigo for their generous grant to assist in the acquisition of new kitchen items and general upgrade of some of the amenities.
The members of Eaglehawk Anglican Church were delighted to recently welcome to the church Phil Gai, the Relationship Manager for Compassion Australia. Phil shared some heart-rending, true stories of some of the thousands of children around the world who have been orphaned due to the results of war. Phil and his family from South Sudan had experienced many years of having to flee from one region and country to another during the many years of civil war. On Tuesday, July 25, members of the Mothers’ Union will meet in the hall with the Connections Craft group for lunch.

LUTHERAN
This coming Sunday, July 16, is the sixth Sunday after Pentecost. In the Bendigo Lutheran parish we will be celebrating with Holy Communion at both our worship centres at 9am at 94 Spring Gully Road, Spring Gully, and 11am in Castlemaine at the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Our Sunday school will still be on a break for school holidays.
Our sermon this week will be upon Matthew 13:1-9,18-23, The parable of the sower. Where it is explained to us that, Not only is the word of God to be 'heard', but it is to be heard with a heart which is open to its truth and gladly receives what it clearly says.
SOUTHERN GATEWAY
Today we had a mighty sermon from Stella Johns about how we are meant to be light to others. Jesus is the light of the world. And we, like the moon, should reflect His light.
Scripture tells us not to hide our light under a bushel. That means that we are to be mighty witnesses of the Word of God and share it with others. A smile, a kind word, a coffee with others is the light in us. If we leave it to be a dull glow people will not notice us at all. We are light and salt to the world as Christians. We only need to leave a grain of salt in a place and it will grow in its power and healing of others. Salt without flavour is useless. Let's not be useless in Jesus’ mighty name.
Next Wednesday is the Lady Lunch day. Prayer ministry from Pastor Peter Pritchard on 0413682999. Join us at our church service 10am in the Y Community Hall opposite Aldi in Kangaroo Flat.
OASIS
Pastor Diane brought an encouraging, exciting and thought provoking message last Sunday as she shared with the congregation a prophecy released by Lana Vaser for 2017 from the Australian Prophetic Council that “The Camels Are Coming” with increase and provision as described in Isaiah 60:6. They are going to bring an increase of abundant provision and that 2017 is also going to be the year of breakthroughs. This is a season when God will be doing remarkable things in the world, in individual lives and in the church. There will be breakthroughs in healing, relationships, finances and many longstanding rifts in families are going to be restored, promises of God will manifest in provision of abundance. How can we be sure that no one misses this breakthrough? The key will be to take time in your day to come into the secret place of the Lord; just you and Him. (Matthew 6:6) Services on Sundays at 10am at the Long Gully Community Centre, 27 Havilah Road, Bendigo. Enquiries: Ph: 5443 1468; Mob: 0402 087 083
PRESBYTERIAN
St John’s
Rev Philip Burns preached from 1 Timothy 6:3-10. Life is full of dangers. Believers face dangers too. In these verses Paul wrote to Timothy concerning very real dangers at Ephesus. To make that clear, Paul reminded Timothy first of all of the root and fruit of sound doctrine. The gospel was not invented by the apostles but came to them direct from Jesus. The aim of such teaching is godliness, a life transformed by grace. Paul also wrote of the root and fruit of false teachers. Not all who profess to follow Jesus adhere to his truth and false teachers often have false motives and the result of these motives will become clear in their divisive behaviour. Paul also spoke of the root and fruit of the desire for material wealth. It is the love of money that can become a root of all kinds of evil. God’s people need to guard their hearts against the dangers of false teaching and the more subtle danger of the love of money.
Eaglehawk
Last Sunday, Brendan Rayson preached from 1 Thessalonians 1 V 1-10 “Paul commends the Thessalonians” Paul opens this Epistle with a greeting assuring the believers that he, Silvanus and Timothy had been praying for them. They know of their faith, love and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ and how through their hearing of the gospel, the Holy Spirit had changed their lives. Upon hearing God’s word and accepting it, the gospel had led to a great changing of attitude in their thoughts and actions, now living the life that God requires, being faithful to the word and receiving the joy that comes from accepting Jesus Christ as their Saviour. When you share the gospel you use words and actions, the most obvious of actions was that the Thessalonians cast aside the idols that they were worshipping. Without God’s word no action takes place.

Recently, Weeroona congregation members were saddened by the passing of Merle Jordan. One of Merle’s projects in past years had been to stitch together knitted squares that were provided by enthusiastic knitters. In 2013 Marie Grylls took over the responsibility and, with a team of helpers, over the years more than 300 large rugs, many knee rugs, cot blankets, slippers, children’s jumpers and socks have been distributed to persons in need in Bendigo and further afield.
The congregation is preparing for a Harvest Thanksgiving Service on July 30. Goods collected will go to Uniting Care, Bendigo.
