The Hawks moved to 7-2 with their 30.19 (199) to 10.9 (69) victory at Princes Park in round nine of the BFNL.
Among the better players for the Hawks were three of their youngsters in Ben Thompson through the midfield, Dylan Hanley off half-back and Gedd Hommelhoff (three goals).
But it was also one of their veterans who starred as full-forward Matt Gretgrix continued his hot form with a haul off 11 goals.
Gretgrix has 42 goals for the season, including 27 in his past three games.
The Hawks kicked 13 of their 30 goals during a brutal third-term blitz that turned a 63-point lead at half-time into a 133-point advantage at the last change.
However, the Magpies, whose best player was Ash Noonan, fought the game right out, narrowly outscoring the Hawks 5.2 to 4.5 in the last quarter.
