Round four of XCR ’17 will be used to select Victoria’s team for the Australian Cross-Country titles at Wollongong in late August.
The Flack Advisory Bendigo Region will be represented in several age groups.
Up to six male and six female athletes could be chosen for Victoria’s open team.
Among the contenders will be Bendigo University’s Andy Buchanan.
Just days after returning from a track campaign in the United States, Buchanan blitzed all rivals to win the second leg of the XCR ’17 series at Wandin Park in the Yarra Ranges.
Bendigo team-mates Nigel Preston, Ben Stolz, Matt Hooke, Craig Green, Charles Chambers, Daniel Plowright and David Heislers all ran strongly.
The races at Bundoora will also double as the Victorian All Schools Cross Country Championships.
Athletics Victoria will select up to 16 athletes per age group to run at the nationals in Wollongong.
Young stars in the Bendigo line-up, Taryn Furletti and Yazmin Hayes, were second and third in the under-16s race at Wandin Park and should figure prominently on the Bundoora course.
School Sport Australia’s cross-country titles will be run on August 11 to 14 in Hobart.
Saturday’s racing at Bundoora Park starts at 10am.
Bendigo is likely to be represented by athletes from Bendigo Harriers, Bendigo University, South Bendigo, and Eaglehawk.
