The Bendigo branch claims it has identified an “exceptional” local candidate to take on sitting member and public transport minister Jacinta Allan at the poll on November 24 next year.
Branch president Carolynne Fawcett could not name the potential person, but said Bendigo East would be a particular focus for the Liberals at the election.
“We have identified an exceptional local person and will be waiting for approval in the next few weeks,” she said.
“We are trying to ensure our candidate is a local.”
Last year’s federal candidate Megan Purcell will not contest state pre-selection, while former candidate Greg Bickley has stepped down from his role with the Bendigo branch of the party and is unlikely to contest.
Jack Lyons signalled his intention to contest Bendigo West against Labor MP Maree Edwards.
Labor holds the seat of Bendigo East on a margin of 5 per cent, and Bendigo West with a margin of 12.2 per cent.
