The Bloods continued their fine start to the season with a comfortable 19.18 (132) to 6.11 (47) win over Castlemaine on Saturday night.
A five-goal to none first term set the foundation for the win.
Classy forward Kaiden Antonowicz kicked eight of the Bloods’ 19 goals to take his season tally to 28 goals in four games.
It was the Bloods’ defensive work that stood out.
Castlemaine kicked five of its six goals in the second term, with the Bloods restricting the home side to one goal over the other three quarters.
South’s midfield group worked just as hard defensively as they did offensively.
Isaiah Miller, Mitch Rogerson, Liam Bartels and Jake Miller impressed through the middle, while Brock Harvey bobbed up with four goals.
For Castlemaine, it was another frustrating performance.
The Pies have now suffered three heavy defeats in a row and they need to regroup over the inter-league break.
Midfielder Kal Huntly, who looks set to represent the BFNL for the second-straight year, was Castlemaine’s best against the Bloods.
Veteran Luke Walters, key position player Braidon Blake and Joel Smith all battled hard against the odds for Castlemaine.
The Pies (1-3) are ninth on ladder ahead of their round five clash with fellow battler Kangaroo Flat.
