A team of more than 60 volunteers has been visiting nursing homes and retirement villages across Bendigo with pre-Anzac Day services for veterans and members of the public.
Bendigo District RSL secretary and pre-Anzac Day services coordinator Lisa Gellatly said the services were held in 19 nursing homes and care facilities, and both Bendigo’s hospitals.
“We reach out to over 2200 patients and aged care personnel through the services,” she said.
“It’s such a rewarding and positive experience. It’s pretty amazing.”
Ms Gellatly said the emcees and guest speakers were all either currently serving or ex-serving personnel and the buglers, pipers and keyboardists were volunteers from the community.
“It’s just such a privilege for the Bendigo District RSL and volunteers to be able to deliver these services to people who would not otherwise be able to attend an Anzac Day service,” she said.
