MORE COVERAGE: Bendigo Easter 2017
The streets of Bendigo are already lined with happy faces in preparation for this year’s Easter parade.
The parade officially starts at 1pm, but for some keen festival-goers, 5am was the time to arrive.
“We do it every year so we can get a good spot,” says Spring Gully’s David Lea, who has been coming to the parade for more than 10 years.
“It’s always a good show in Bendigo.”
White Hills resident Karen Falconer arrived at 5.30am to save seats for her family.
“Dad was a fireman so we’ve always come because of the torchlight parade and then it’s just grown from there,” she said.
“You have got to come and see the kids’ faces.”
She says the grandchildren play dragons for weeks after, a sentiment shared by the Boston family.
“The kids spend the next few weeks playing ‘boom boom’ dragons,” says mum Leanne Boston.
“There is just so much to do.”
Nurse Rikki Petri has not slept yet, finishing a night shift and making her way to Pall Mall to set up her spot by 7.30am.
“There’s plenty of time for sleep later,” she said.
“You wouldn’t go anywhere else at Easter.”
Pam Coates has been coming to the parade since she was born and says this year is the busiest she’s seen so far.
“I cannot believe the amount of people this year,” she said.
