Trained at Bendigo by Shaun Dwyer, Savaju’s last-to-first win over 1100m was the most impressive win of the day on Marong Cup day.
Dwyer’s always had a high opinion of the filly and his original plan was to race the daughter of Savabeel over staying distances.
“She’s pretty talented...and she’s strengthened up,’’ Dwyer said.
“Time will tell how far she’ll get. Her pedigree says she’ll get over ground… we’ll keep heading that way with her and see how she goes.
“We might give her another run here before we head to town with her. She’s only going to improve with racing.”
Meanwhile, Honey’s Steel Gold upstaged favourite Goodwill to win Saturday’s Marong Cup (2200m).
The David Hayes-trained galloper outstayed Goodwill to win by two lengths.
