ORGANISERS hope the cooler temperatures forecast for Saturday will bring plenty of people out for the annual fundraising Marong Cup.
About 3000 people are expected to attend the race meeting, which raises money for Bendigo’s eight Catholic primary schools.
Marong Racing Club secretary Greg Sheehan said each school usually received about $5000 to $6000 from the day.
About $495,000 had been raised over the past 11 years, he said.
The meeting has a strong family focus, with a large entertainment area to be set up for kids.
Mr Sheehan said this would include such activities as carnival rides, a water slide, archery, laser tag and a jumping castle.
Entry to the races is $15 for adults, $10 concession and free for children 16 years and under.
Whole-day entry to the kids entertainment area is $5 if purchased from the schools or $10 on the day.
The fundraiser dates back decades, having once been a St Patrick’s Day meeting that raised money for the local Catholic community.
