Missing Persons Squad detectives have found human remains near Swan Hill.
The body was discovered in Woorinen late on Wednesday.
A vehicle was also found in the area.
The body is yet to be formally identified, but police believe it is that of missing 33-year-old man Dean Jenkins.
Victoria Police said detectives would await the result of a post mortem to determine the cause of death.
Dean was reported missing to police on September 15, having previously been seen at a service station on Campbell Street in Swan Hill with a male friend about 11.20pm on August 23.
The length of time Dean had been missing caused police and Dean’s family to fear for his welfare.
His absence was also reportedly out of character.
Investigators said the maroon 1994 Holden Commodore sedan in which Dean was last seen was observed to have been bogged in Dead Horse Lane, Swan Hill, on the morning of August 24.
Police believed the vehicle had sustained damage to the front.
They said it might have been moved from Dead Horse Lane on a tandem trailer.
Police said Dean had associates in the Bendigo, Geelong and Melbourne areas.
