City of Greater Bendigo mayor Margaret O'Rourke said about 300 residents turned out to share in the good vibes, including some whose Christmases may not have otherwise been so merry.
“It’s really about people who are on their own for Christmas or who would normally not be able to afford a Christmas lunch to be able to have some goodwill and friendship and not be alone,” she said.
For Roxee Polinelli, her sister Emily and her mother Danielle, the event was an opportunity to share the day with other community members as a Christmas treat.
“We don’t usually go out for Christmas and we thought why not, just this once,” she said.
“It’s good to not have to cook either.”
