Emergency services blocked the road at Meurillion Road while tending to the Eaglehawk driver in his 20s.
Police and ambulance officers both said the man was lucky to escape from the wreckage with only serious injuries to his lower body.
UPDATE 8.15am: Police believe the man may have been trapped for up to three hours before the crash was called in at 6.40am.
They are calling for witnesses to the crash to come forward and want to speak to any truck drivers on the Bendigo-Pyramid Road about 4am.
Police believe the man may have been attempting to overtake a truck at the time of the crash.
UPDATE 7.50am: A man has been freed from the wreckage and will be flown by air ambulance to The Royal Melbourne Hospital.
Emergency services worked to free the man for about an hour while paramedics treated him for leg and arm injuries, an Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said.
Police said the man could have been trapped in the Holden Commodore for some hours.
EARLIER: The Bendigo-Pyramid Road is closed after a Bendigo-bound car crashed into paddock at Woodvale this morning.
The air ambulance is en route to the scene and Victoria Police, Country Fire Authority, State Emergency Service and Ambulance Victoria crews are already working at the site.
It is believed the car has come off the road, hit a tree and flipped.
More to come.
