The new works will be part of an ongoing collaboration between Bill Henson, the Bendigo Art Gallery and several major European institutions.
At a gallery event tonight, Bendigo Art Gallery director Karen Quinlan announced the gallery would host five major international exhibitions in the next 12 months.
Ms Quinlan confirmed the gallery is working with institutions such as the Victoria & Albert Museum, London and British Museum.
She said details of the major exhibits are set to be revealed in early 2013.
The Gallery will next year host a major exhibition with one of the most significant arts institutions in Europe, initiating the first tour of precious works from their collection.
The Bill Henson works were described as unique for an Australian gallery and come on the back of the success of the Grace Kelly exhibit.
The acquisition of his works include eight purchased works, with three other works generously donated by a private benefactor.
The Bendigo Art Gallery Foundation also announced a generous contribution of $100,000 from the Sidney Myer Fund toward its fundraising campaign.
