Hayes has had a superb winter race walking season in 2016, winning multiple medals at national and state championship level.
Hayes scored a clean sweep in the under-16 5km race walk. She won gold medals over that distance at the Australian, Victorian and Victorian Country championships this year.
Hayes collected silver medals in the under-16 3km walk at the Australian Federation Championships and in the under-18 5km Victorian Schools Championship.
Earlier this year, Hayes won the under-16 3km walk at the Victorian Country titles and finished second over the same distance at the Victorian Championships.
Hayes joins Zane Keighran (cricket) and Dyson Daniels (football and basketball) as a finalist for the junior sports star award.
