The BDCA was scheduled to start on Saturday, October 8, but Bendigo’s wet September made it impossible for club curators to have turf wickets ready.
Further rain in the first two weeks of October forced the BDCA to postpone round one and cut round two from a two-day game to a one-day match on October 22.
8mm of rain fell in Bendigo on Sunday night and light showers are forecast for later this week, but BDCA chairman Wayne Walsh expected all 10 grounds to be ready for action.
“We’ve done a drive around all the grounds and we’ve spoken with council and we’ll be ready to go,’’ Walsh said on Monday.
“The rain on Sunday night wasn’t ideal, but the grounds are looking good. There’s some light rain forecast for this week… hopefully that’s all it is.”
After the delayed start it will be a busy eight days of cricket for the BDCA.
Following the one-day games on October 22, the first round of the Twenty20 competition will be played on Tuesday, October 25 and round three of the home and away season is a Saturday-Sunday game on October 29-30.
Draw for this Saturday’s one-day games (home team listed first) – Strathfieldsaye v Sandhurst, White Hills v Kangaroo Flat, Bendigo v Huntly-North Epsom, Bendigo United v Golden Square, Eaglehawk v Strathdale-Maristians.
Round one draw for the BDCA T20 competition on October 25 (home team listed first) – Pool 1: White Hills v Sandhurst, Kangaroo Flat v Golden Square. Pool 2: Strathfieldsaye v Huntly-North Epsom, Bendigo v Strathdale-Maristians.
