The two met when they were in their early 20s and working at the same Pall Mall store.
“One of the staff members was pushing for us to get together,” Bill said.
Bill, 84, said he remembered taking Lola, 85, to the movies on their first date.
A melted chocolate bar nearly ruined the evening, but the two hit it off.
And 60 years on, the couple say they are now as close as ever.
Looking back on their time together, Bill said the birth of their daughter Judy in 1954 was his proudest moment, with the construction of their now family home 10 years later in 1964 a close second.
Bill said the key to a long and lasting relationship was compromise, especially when it came to the footy.
With Lola a tireless Geelong supporter and Bill siding with Carlton, there is plenty of that.
“We’ve had our ups and downs, that’s for sure, but that’s life,” he said.
“You have to give and take.”?
