Construction is continuing on the Assissi Kindergarten, which will cater for for children aged three and four in two age-specific rooms.
The kindergarten is located at the entrance to St Francis of the Fields in Blucher Street.
It's construction is being funded by the St Therese's Parish and a $650,000 State Government grant under the Children's Facilities Capital Program and is expected to be complete by December.
St Francis of the Fields principal Tim Moloney said the kindergarten would meet the childcare demands of the growing numbers of families choosing to live in the community.
"Strathfieldsaye is a real growing area and we were fortunate to land the (state government) funding," he said.
"Assisi Kindergarten will provide programs that will enable children to learn through the exploration and stimulating experiences in a natural play-based learning environment.
"The beautiful environment will provide enjoyable and creative learning."
The centre will cater for up to 132 four-year-old children and 88 three-year-olds.
Fifty-four four-year-olds have already been enrolled.
The relocatable building was transported to Bendigo from Swan Hill about three four weeks ago.
Project consultant Tony Morley said it was transported in 12 sections and assembled on site.
"It was a big effort involving three days of craning (the sections) in - there was a fair bit of work involved," he said.
"Now the finishing touches are being done and then we have to build the playground."
"Then bingo, it will be right before Christmas.
"It was identified that there was a strong need for this kindergarten and that's now being addressed."
The space will also be offered as a meeting room for local community groups.
