Police were called to a fight at the Eaglehawk skate park about 6.25pm and they believe it had been organised on Facebook.
Senior Constable Bill Edwards said predominately teenagers were involved in the brawl, with some people in their early 20s.
“Initial reports were that there were 20 to 30 people but when we got there, there were about five victims and the offenders had left at that stage,” he said.
Senior Constable Edwards said the attackers had used baseball bats as weapons.
It’s understood the fight spilled onto nearby residential streets.
“One man has received a laceration to the head and substantial bruising to the head where he was hit with a baseball bat,” Senior Constable Edwards said.
“He was taken to hospital in a private vehicle.”
Senior Constable Edwards said police believed the fight was part of an ongoing dispute.
“It’s believed to be stemming from an altercation a day earlier between one of the victims and one of the offenders,” he said.
“They organised a time and place over Facebook.”
A suspect has been identified and Senior Constable Edwards said police were trying to track him down.
He said they were waiting for the victim to recover fully before he made a statement.
