Students from Camp Hill Primary school have swamped the Bendigo Advertiser with support for the red dragon design, one of three playgrounds young people can choose from.
But City of Greater Bendigo director of community wellbeing Pauline Gordon said the preferred play space was changing from day to day.
“The red dragon design has come up strongly, but the younger pre-school students have mixed opinions,” she said.
“Under true democracy, it will be the majority of votes that wins.
“It’s too early to say which one is likely to be chosen.”
The council has received votes from about 20 pre-schools and schools and is waiting for responses from a further 60 schools.
“It seems to be a topic around a lot of family dinner tables,” Ms Gordon said.
“It affirms that we are a child-friendly city and having children give input into the decision is really important.
“And no, big people can’t vote... I’ve had a lot of people ask me that.”
Voting is open until the end of the month and the preferred design will be installed early next year.
“We encourage as many schools and pre-schools as possible to get their response in,” Ms Gordon said.
