Their entrance brings a new form of judging sheep, with a greater emphasis on Australian Sheep Breeding Values and minimal intervention from the commercial management of sheep.
The Dohne production classes will be marked out of 100 points – with up to 35 points given for subjective measurements and 65 points for their performance data.
“We have been very mindful of the fact we don’t want to compromise on our performance testing systems while showing,” DD Dohnes principal Bruce Barnes-Webb, Moama, NSW, said.
“Exhibitors can’t isolate animals at an early stage and feed them up to win prizes – we are trying to get the good animals to come to the surface.”
The Dohne performance classes will be judged on Saturday, July 16, from noon in the Dohne Marquee Showman’s Area, with championships awarded on Sunday.
