There was something for everyone with a jumping castle, animal farm, fairy floss, cake, produce stalls and live entertainment on offer.
The annual event is the school’s major fund-raiser but it has won the hearts of the wider Bendigo community, headmaster Matthew Maruff said.
“There are so many people who are not part of our school community, as such, that come along for the day,” he said. “I see it as a Bendigo event, not just a Girton Grammar event.”
Mr Maruff sent out a big thanks to all the students, staff, parents and other helpers who helped make the fair a success.
Money raised at the weekend is still being counted and will be presented to the school on speech night in December.
Mr Maruff said the weather had turned it on for the event.
“It’s just been superb,” he said.
Mr Maruff named the “toilet roll in the toilet” game as one of the most popular attractions at the fair – demonstrated by a long line of children waiting to see if they had the skill to successfully throw a toilet roll into the goal, a toilet.
“And one of the really popular things, unsurprisingly, is food,” he said.
“There were some magnificent Sri Lankan curries.”
But Noah Phillips, 12, couldn’t go past the fairy floss.
“The chocolate fountain is good too,” he said.
“And I like how you can ride motorbikes here and do archery.”
The line-up of activities also included swing chairs, a mini skate park, a wine auction and a silent auction. The “Tunnel of Terror” sent a few hearts racing, with one youngster making an early exit saying it was “very freaky”.
The spooky tunnel was made from a long line of joined desks in a dark classroom, covered by black tarp.
Smoke filled the room and spiders, cobwebs and other Halloween-type objects filled the tunnel.
People on the outside of the set-up rattled chains and occasionally donned a scary mask and stuck their heads into the tunnel to add to the thrill factor.
