Among items to be considered by City of Greater Bendigo councillors at this Wednesday’s regular meeting will be a proposal to rename the creekside section of Bull Street to William Vahland Place.
The move would follow the similar renaming of the adjacent section of Williamson Street to Sidney Myer Place in 2010.
As with the 2010 decision, the name of the section of the street on the other side of Pall Mall would remain unchanged.
Vahland designed more than 100 buildings in Bendigo’s central business district, which is believed to be the greatest concentration of buildings designed by one architect in one city anywhere in Australia.
The renaming would also follow the announcement earlier this year that Vahland’s historic drinking fountain would take pride of place in the street which may soon bear his name.
