She’s been attending the event since she was nine, ridden at the carnival and supported her partner Scott Law, who is one of Australia’s premier track riders.
The Madison carnival now holds an even greater place in Jelbart’s heart after Law made a shock proposal of marriage to her in front of a big crowd at the Tom Flood Sports Centre.
Imogen thought she was on stage to officially open the carnival with Scott, but he had other ideas.
The sprint sensation got down on one knee and asked Imogen to marry her.
Imogen had no hesitation in saying “yes” and the crowd cheered.
“I had no idea this was going to happen,’’ a beaming Imogen said.
“The organisers (of the Madison) have obviously played a part in this. Rik (McCaig) asked me to be at the stage at this time.
“It’s pretty amazing.”
Imogen and Scott have been together for five years. Imogen moved to Wollongong to be with her partner.
“To have this happen at a track that’s so special to me is great,’’ Imogen said.
“I always come back and ride here when I come back to Bendigo.
“Now it’s even more special to me.”
