Family-owned business McCullochs Hydraulic Engineers has been setting up shop at the Elmore Field Days since it started in 1964.
Staff members of the Bendigo-based operation say the event is still an important part of their year.
“We’re a family company and it’s part of our tradition,” sales representative Michael Shiell said.
Mr Shiell has been manning McCullochs’ distinctive green and gold marquee for 11 years.
He said every Elmore Field Days brought with it a mix of new and old people.
“We always get return people,” he said. “It’s a local event so customers can come in and have a chat in a relaxed environment.”
Mr Shiell said the company used the event to display machinery rather than generate on-the-spot sales.
He said the laid-back atmosphere of the field days made it a good place to build relationships with customers.
“Everyone has time to say g’day and have a chat,” he said.
Mr Shiell is confident McCullochs will be putting up their stall at Elmore for a long time to come.
“I think we’ll be coming to the field days until they stop.”
