Gillies Pies has provided the event with pastries for the past 48 years of the event, but this year Vili’s has stepped in after being the winning tender following presentations by both companies.
“We’ll just have to see whether people like these too,” catering food safety officer Phyllis Giffin said.
Mrs Giffin said the catering team took 12 months to prepare for the event and organise the 350 volunteers required to feed the masses.
This year 16 regional community groups have filled up a roster with volunteers to help prepare the food and staff the food vans.
The profit from the takings are split between the groups.
Mrs Giffin said her 20 years of service in the catering halls was not much compared to some other veterans of the Field Days. “There are some people here that have done double that,” she said.
“You do it for your organisation, because that’s what keeps these community groups going.
“We have some of the best schools in our area and it’s due to things like this.”
