A 27-year-old woman from Eaglehawk has been charged with several offences in relation to assaulting police and refusing a preliminary breath test.
The incident comes just days after two Bendigo police members were taken to hospital for treatment after being assaulted during an arrest.
Karl McDowell, 19, of Eaglehawk, screamed and spat at the officers, the Bendigo Magistrates Court heard on Tuesday.
McDowell was sentenced to six months’ youth detention. Sergeant Tony Kekich said police were fed up and would not tolerate bad behaviour.
“People have got to realise they’ve got to be accountable for their actions,” he said.
“People who behave in this way and do the wrong thing will face the full force of the law.” Sergeant Kekich said the alleged assault occurred about 1am yesterday in Napier Street, Eaglehawk.
“Police conducted a routine intercept of a vehicle ... the woman basically became abusive towards police. When asked to do a preliminary breath test she became aggressive – she also refused her name and address.”
Sergeant Kekich said the police member suffered minor facial injuries.
