Two police members were taken to hospital for treatment after a man became violent during an arrest.
Sergeant Steve Rainey said the assault on police occurred after a burglary at the Victoria Hotel in Eaglehawk.
"Three offenders have broken in -- we have two in custody and one at large," he said.
"It's just outrageous the attitude of some people think they can spit at anybody, let alone police.
"They just have no thought of the consequences and positions it puts people in whether they're police members or not.
"They just don't know whether they have infectious diseases and there's just the uncomfortableness of it."
Sergeant Rainey said two police members suffered bruising and soreness after the scuffle broke out.
"There was three members all up, two went to hospital for washings and so forth," he said.
Police are also investigating burglaries and thefts of motor cars in Goornong overnight.
