Mitch Barri from La Piazza Wine Bar and Restaurant Cafe, Jim Smith from Hotel Shamrock and Brent Curran from Tea House Motor Inn were all sworn in at the board’s AGM on Monday night.
Mr Barri said the tourism board was integral to keeping Bendigo businesses in the loop and helping them to capitalise on local events.
He said he jumped at the chance to get involved.
“Bendigo is a great town that has so many good events and facilities, so we already have a good tourism industry, and I wanted to capitalise on that,” he said.
“Melburnians want to get away from the rat race and Bendigo is a good weekend destination.
“Bendigo tourism gives tourists one point of contact where they can get all the information they need.”
Mr Barri said there was always room to improve as well.
“I think we could better market ourselves outside of Bendigo with external advertising and packaging things together,” he said.
The new members join Evonne Oxenham, Geoff Michell, Sharon Carlson, Bob Downing, Anthony Gurry, Paul Henderson and City of Greater Bendigo councillor Barry Lyons.
The Bendigo Tourism Board is the City of Greater Bendigo’s peak tourism body, made up of elected industry and council appointed community representatives.
At Monday’s AGM, Bryley Drummond from Friendly Savage spoke about the benefits of social media to tourism industry representatives.
