Bridesgroom’s name: Brent Owins
Wedding date: May 2, 2015
The meeting: Bec and Brent met at a mutual friend’s barbecue in November, 2009. That night there were sparks flying but no-one knew whether it was the storm in the sky or between Bec and Brent. From that night, the pair was in constant contact and the rest went from there.
The proposal: After a long anticipated wait of four years, everyone thought the couple would get engaged on a trip to Mt Everest in 2013 but Brent had other plans and proposed on Christmas morning in a camper trailer on a family trip to Anglesea.
The wedding day: The big day started with Bec and the girls getting ready in their accommodation while Brent and the boys went out for breakfast and a few laps of go-karts to help settle their nerves before last minute work on the cars after a hectic 24 hours prior with them. Brent and Bec made it official at the Sacred Heart Cathedral and celebrated with 125 closest friends and family at Chateau Dore in Mandurang with the help of Houlihans Buses.
The dress: The dress was found in one shopping trip when Bec’s mum was visiting from Queensland. The dress was the very last one tried on. “I actually didn’t like it on the hanger but once it was on I didn’t want to take it off,” Bec said. “The ladies at Brides and Maids in Shepparton were amazing. Nothing was too much to ask. It was a sweetheart neckline with tulle straps, and diamantes on the bodice and a V waistline, which then dropped out to a full skirt. The girl’s dresses were from Michelle’s Bridal in Shepparton. With one bridesmaid only arriving a few days before the wedding, these ladies bent over backwards to get it ready for the big day.”
The cake: Bec’s aunty made the cake, which comprised of three layers of chocolate mud cake and tasted as good as it looked. The cake was presented on an old wine barrel top which was prepared as a surprise for Bec from Brent. There were a few handmade items that talented friends and family helped with. The guest’s name tags were handwritten by another of Bec’s aunts and it was cut with a knife “given to us by some special people”.
The photographer: The main photographer chosen to capture the special moments was Shaun Batty by My Little Eye Photography but Bec and Brent were lucky enough to have family, friends and the DJ, who also loved photography, to help capture more photos. “Shaun was very easy to get along with and this laid back approach made him the ideal choice for the job. We were also extremely lucky that his friend from Sundae Films had no plans on our wedding day so Ben was able to come along and do a highlights film too.”
The honeymoon: Brent surprised Bec with a mini-moon following the wedding in Phillip Island, and then a real honeymoon in June where they spent eight days in Hawaii.
