Cr Cox officially announced his bid for a spot representing the Whipstick Ward today saying he would continue to advocate for residents, local heritage and local history.

"It is now time that a higher priority be given to issues in neighbourhoods, townships and the suburbs," he said.

“I urge everyone to join the debate not only during the election period but during the life of the next council. There is much to be gained and the city needs your input."

A vocal critic of rate increases and for an independent review of the Bendigo council, Cr Cox said he would continue to tackle the difficult issues.

“The new residential and transport strategies are important issues to be tackled over the next 12 months to ensure Bendigo remains a city where people can enjoy its great amenities," he said.

“I believe putting a maximum cap of four per cent on rates is the most important election issue. 

"I urge everybody to ask candidates where they stand on this issue. It is not good enough for candidates to say they will keep rates low. They need to be asked. How low? Their answer needs to be measurable and accountable.

“I have strongly advocated for residents over the past four years and I hope to continue in this role for a further term."

The new Whipstick Ward will include Drummartin, Elmore, Kamarooka, Avonmore, Goornong, Neilborough, Bagshot, Huntly, Fosterville, Wellsford, Epsom, Ascot, Eaglehawk, Bendigo, East Bendigo and North Bendigo.

Retired farmer James Williams is also running for the Whipstick Ward.
