Scope chief executive officer Jenny Fitzgerald said the walk was about creating an inclusive society for people with disabilities.
“It’s about opening the community’s eyes to see what people with disability can offer,” she said.
“It’s an opportunity for people to walk with people with disabilities and find out they’re no different to them, they have the same dreams and aspirations as anyone.”
It is the first time the event has been held in Bendigo.
Similar walks were held in Melbourne last week and Geelong yesterday.
Ms Fitzgerald said the walk, part of See Me September, would return to Bendigo next year.
“It’s really exciting to see it gradually spread out across the state,” she said.
“We will get really strong support from the Bendigo community and there’s a lot of support for Scope in this area.
“It’s a matter of building it up here.
“We’ll definitely be back next year.”
