The fan web site Watchers on the Wall quotes "reliable sources" that 13-year-old English actor Sebastian Croft has been cast in the role for the sixth season.
An experienced theatre actor, he has performed in London West End productions of Matilda and Les Miserables, as well as the UK national tour of Oliver! and the musical version of The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13¾.
Fan suspicions were aroused by a casting call in May for a young boy with brown hair, green eyes and a narrow face, who could perform with a Northern accent. He was to spar with an older child in a scene.
The description seemed to fit a young Ned Stark, spurring speculation of a scene flashing back to the character's childhood.
Ned Stark was played by Sean Bean in the first season of Game of Thrones.
