A remarkable day for the Spence family included 23-year-old Laura winning the A-grade award and her mum, Raelene being declared the C-reserve competition’s best player.
Daughter and mother had won the LVNA’s top award before.
Laura was the A-grade champion in 2009, which was several years after Raelene had done so.
“Winning a league best and fairest, especially for the second time means a lot, as does mum’s award win,” Laura said.
Now their focus switches to Saturday’s grand finals in which Laura and the rest of the Jen Morrison-coached A-grade team from Miti take on YCW.
A big day for the Spence family includes Laura’s sister, Raquel playing in B-grade, and Raelene will also be chasing grand final glory with the Superoos.
First and second in the A-grade award, Laura Spence and YCW star Jamie-Lee Clohesy will be at opposite ends of the court.
“I am yet to play in an A-grade premiership, and YCW will be tough to beat,” said Laura Spence, who is a fourth-year PE-Health Education student at La Trobe University Bendigo.
