The announcement was made at yesterday’s Taste of Spring race day.
Ms Fuzzard said she was excited to have an extra excuse to head along to the carnival.
“It’s fun to get dressed up, there’s not too many people who don’t enjoy putting on a nice frock and going to the races, especially on a day like this,” she said.
Ms Fuzzard grew up in Bendigo, attending Spring Gully Primary School and then Girton Grammar, where she was dux of the school.
During high school she was a Rotary exchange student to Brazil and can speak fluent Portuguese.
Ms Fuzzard is studying a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery at Melbourne University and will graduate at the end of next year. She is now living in Benalla as part of a GP placement but plans to return to Bendigo for another medical placement next year.
“At the moment I think I am liking sports medicine so I want to explore that,” she said.
Ms Fuzzard is a self-confessed “sporty chick”, she represented Victoria in athletics as a teenager, and she has set a goal to run the Melbourne Marathon in October.
She plays netball for the Benalla Saints and is a trainer at the South Bendigo Football Club.
But Ms Fuzzard was also keen to put her best fashion foot forward in her new role.
Dressed in a eye-popping gown and headpiece yesterday, Ms Fuzzard said she wasn’t afraid of bright colours.
She’s not scared of entering the fascinator versus hat debate either.
“Being in the medical profession I should probably say wear a hat because that’s the sun-smart thing,” she laughed.
“So do as I say, not as I do.”
As the face of the carnival, Ms Fuzzard will receive an education portfolio from Continuing Education Bendigo and will represent the club at a variety of functions and racedays.
Bendigo Jockey Club chief executive officer Ian Hart said Ms Fuzzard was chosen because she was a natural leader and a perfect fit to represent the “modern, glamorous face of spring racing”.
“She is someone that the club has identified as a community leader with great personal drive,” Mr Hart said.
