Victoria Police Assistant Commissioner Tess Walsh fittingly travelled to Bendigo to award the medals during a special ceremony at The Capital.
It's fantastic to see those who work so hard to protect our city through their daily working lives get just recognition for their service.
This is a tough time for all the men and women who serve in our police force with a heightened terror threat and challenges around community respect.
We would hope that our police members are aware it's the minority in our community and not the majority who fail to see and appreciate the fantastic work they do.
People such as Heathcote sergeant John Olver who was recognised for 35 years of service on Monday.
''It makes you proud to think back on your achievements,'' Sergeant Olver said.
So it should.
Well done to all those police members who received honours in Bendigo on Monday.
And thank you to everyone in the force who works to keep our community safe.
