MARY Poppins, Bert the Cockney and Jane and Michael Banks were spotted in Rosalind Park yesterday.
The four characters will appear on the Ulumbarra stage in July as part of Bendigo Theatre Company’s production of Mary Poppins.
Alicia Barker, who has been cast as the famous Edwardian nanny, said Bendigo had a great amount of talent.
“I just love that in my own home town there are so many talented people,” she said.
Ms Barker said she felt lucky to work with such a talented cast.
"I feel very lucky and very privileged," she said.
Accompanying Ms Barker in the lead roles are Paul Waldron as cheerful chimney sweep Bert and Eliza Griffiths and Oliver Scott as youngsters Jane and Michael Banks.
Mary Poppins is Oliver's first show.
"I feel pretty good, I was nervous for auditions," he said.
"It's just such a fun show."
Eliza said this was her first community theatre show.
"It will be exciting and fun to start rehearsals," she said.
Paul Waldron had never auditioned in a group before.
"It was a very new experience for me. It was a bit intimidating seeing people go for the same role as you," he said.
"Being a dancer and singer I thought I'd give it a shot and see how it went."
Director Matt Emond said more than 90 people auditioned for the show with 43 people being cast.
"The stand was very consistent and it was one of the toughest castings I have done simply because I had so much talent to choose from," he said.
"There's not a weak link in the show from the principle cast right down to the ensemble.
"It's going to be a great show, I'm really excited.
Mary Poppins will be the first community theatre show in the new Ulumbarra theatre.
The BTC cast will perform part of the show for the Ulumbarra opening weekend next Saturday.
"The space look fantastic and the theatre will be wonderful," Mr Emond said.
Mary Poppins is on at Ulumbarra on from July 9 to July 12.
