UPDATE 7.30pm: Forensics have arrived at the scene where a 22-month-old boy was found deceased in a car earlier today.
UPDATE 6.40pm: An ambulance has arrived at the scene.
One local resident said she was not aware of the daycare centre in the street, but that there could have been a family daycare run at a private home.
"I've been down that street before and I've never seen a childcare centre," she said.
"I do see a lot of mothers with prams in the street."
She added: "Poor little thing".
Other residents spoken to by the Bendigo Advertiser said their thoughts were with the family's baby and that the incident would hit the community hard.
UPDATE 5.25pm: Macedon Ranges Inspector Ryan Irwin has told media the boy was 22 months old and from the area.
He said the boy was found deceased by a family member.
Inspector Irwin said the family was "absolutely devastated" and police were still trying to track down some family members.
The homicide squad is expected to arrive within the hour.
Inspector Irwin said the investigation was in its very early stages and local investigators were pursuing a number of lines of inquiry.
He said investigators would keep an open mind while preparing a full report for the coroner.
"It is a warm day and that is something that's going to inform our inquires," he said.
"Regardless of the circumstances, this is an absolute tragedy for the family, the other people living in the area and for the emergency services who attended."
UPDATE 4.30pm: Police will address the media at 5.15pm.
Acacia Drive is part of a new development area of the town and less than 10 years old.
The temperature in Kyneton reached 31 degrees at 3pm.
UPDATE 4.23pm: Midland Express journalist Chris Yeend told 3AW Drive word had already spread fast in the small country community.
"It's pretty devastating at the moment," he said.
"There's a lot of distraught residents nearby."
UPDATE 4.12pm: Police have confirmed the infant was found dead about 3pm on Thursday in a car in Banksia Crescent, off Acacia Drive in Kyneton.
The one-year-old had reportedly been left in the car.
Paramedics performed CPR on the boy but were unable to revive him.
Emergency services had to smash the rear window of the car in an effort to reach the infant, radio station 3AW has reported.
Acacia Drive is a small residential street with a childcare centre, according to a woman who lives in the street. The street backs onto the local hospital.
An ambulance station is attached to the hospital.
Police and paramedics are at the scene.
Kyneton was predicted to reach a top temperature of 28 degrees on Thursday.

EARLIER: A one-year-old boy has been found dead in a car in central Victoria, police have confirmed.
The child was found in a car on Acacia Drive in Kyneton at about 3pm.
Local police are investigating and will prepare a report for the coroner.
