The day was held in the lead up to the Marong Racing Cup, a fundraising event to raise money for Bendigo's Catholic schools.
For a gold coin donation, children unleashed their millinery talents to design items as diverse as an umbrella hat, a princess crown and a fruit bowl hat.
Teacher Kim Carter said the day was a lot of fun and a great way to get parents and students excited about the cup.
"It's one of our school fundraisers for the Marong Cup held this weekend," she said.
"We had fruit bowls, sombreros and a lot of creations students made at home themselves.
"It's a major fundraiser for all the Catholic schools in Bendigo, so we hope everyone will embrace it and get out and about."
Gates open at noon and as well as horse races the event will include rides, jumping castles, a brass band, a barbecue and an animal nursery.
However, Mrs Carter said she was most excited about the school-verses-school running race at 2.45pm.
"I just love how much of a community event it is and the fact we get the chance to mingle with families from different schools," she said.
A general admission ticket to the event costs $15.
