AXEDALE can once again use its town fire siren after the City of Greater Bendigo granted the CFA a temporary planning permit on Thursday.
The permit lasts until June 1, 2015, when the council will carry out an assessment of the siren's impact on local amenity.
The brigade was ordered not to use its siren from November 5 as the new Axedale fire station did not have a planning permit to operate one.
Axedale Our Town - Our Future co-ordinated a petition to have the siren reinstated, which received 443 hard copy signatures and 318 online signatures.
Axedale Our Town - Our Future president Yvonne Wrigglesworth said it was "great news" that the council had listened to the overwhelming voice of the community.
"Let's hope our community support was what made the difference," she said.
"We fully back initiatives towards increasing safety and fire preparedness in our town."
The petition was located at the Axedale General Store and Axedale Tavern.
The town committee submitted the petition earlier this week.
City of Greater Bendigo director of planning and development Prue Mansfield said it was a positive outcome for Axedale.
"Given the summer danger period is upon us, the city has acted quickly to approve the amended planning permit that will enable the warning siren to be installed and used during an emergency," she said.
"Once the fire danger period has ended, the CFA will be able to provide advice around the frequency and pattern of use.
"Together, the CFA and the city will then look at any impacts and be able to determine the requirements needed for a permanent planning permit."
The order to stop using the siren came as the CFA had not applied for a permit to operate a siren at the new station, completed earlier this year.
The inclusion of a warning siren attracted two objectors from within the community. The CFA chose to continue with the project without a permit for a siren.
Since it was disconnected the Axedale Fire Brigade has attended fires almost every week, including a 67 acre grass fire north of the town just a few days later.
