PTO's provide non-emergency transport services like transferring patients between hospitals, nursing homes and other healthcare providers.
More than 100 new ambulance staff have been deployed to help relieve pressure in stations across Victoria with 30 PTO's and 113 paramedics rolled out.
No new paramedics have been rolled out in Bendigo despite staff being stretched thin.
Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell said it was one of the biggest ambulance staff increases in the state's history.
“We are delivering on our $151 million election commitment to employ 310 additional paramedics and 30 patient transfer officers over five years," she said.
“The Victorian Coalition Government is working with Ambulance Victoria to allocate new paramedics to areas of the state with the greatest need.
“This will be the biggest single increase in additional staffing for the ambulance service in the state’s history.”
New 24-hour rosters, increased paramedics numbers and more single-response units are some of the steps being taken to reform the ambulance sector.
Health Minister David David urged Victorians to be patient and said it would take time to restructure and enhance ambulance services.
Staff shortages have plagued Bendigo with Ambulance Employees secretary Steve McGhie calling for more ambulance vehicles and staff earlier this year.
Mr McGhie said the services were most needed in regional townships where paramedics covered a wider area.
“There’s not enough resources for the amount of demand,” he said. “You’ve got a lot of places where there are incidents because there’s no ambulance in town at that time.’’
In April this year a 73-year-old man who had suffered a heart attack in his Maryborough home was forced to wait more than half an hour for paramedics.
