Police have arrested a man for a violent aggravated burglary in Castlemaine on Saturday night.
A 26-year-old Castlemaine man was remanded overnight on Monday and faced Bendigo Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
The Bendigo Advertiser reported on Sunday a group of men armed with machetes and pieces of timber broke into the Montgomery Street home and confronted the occupant.
Up to four men entered the kitchen area of the home where they assaulted a 33-year-old man.
The victim was struck to the head with a machete before the men fled from the premises.
He was taken to Bendigo Base Hospital with head injuries but has since been released.
Macedon Ranges Crime Investigation Unit Senior Constable Michelle Elliot said the accused man did not apply for bail and was remanded until November.
She said officers were continuing to investigate the incident.
