BENDIGO'S Zak Dempster and Jack Haig have been selected in the initial Australian squad of cyclists to contest the 2014 UCI Road World Championships, which will be held next month.

Dempster has been named in the elite men's division, alongside some of Australia's most successful riders such as Cadel Evans, Simon Gerrans, Simon Clarke and Richie Porte.
Dempster rode in this year's Tour de France.
His career highlights this year include finishing fourth in stage seven of the Tour of California and crossed the line in ninth place at the Australian Road National Championships.
Haig, who has been riding with the Australian Institute of Sport team across Europe for the past month, was selected in the under-23 men's category.
Haig was the first in the young rider classification in the Tour Down Under, Herald Sun Tour and Tour of Alsace in France this year.
The talented Bendigo rider is currently with the AIS team which is racing in the Tour de L'Avenir which is also known as the under-23 Nations Cup.
The 2014 UCI Road World Championships will be held in Ponferrada, Spain, between September 21 and 28.
The prestigious championships will consist of 12 events in the elite, under-23 and junior categories in the time trial, road race and team time trial.
The women's team will be announced at the end of the month while the final men's team will be announced in September.
