Not only did the iconic South American alpaca grace the Prince of Wales showground, the event also kicked off with a fiesta, paella and a fashion show.
Show convenor Jenny Ford said almost 500 alpacas packed the pavilion.
"We have quite a few from New Zealand for this year's show," she said.
"Alpaca breeders have also come from Tasmania, South Australia and Western Australia.
"It's an important show, because the alpacas are judged by colour rather than age. A lot of people choose to breed certain colours, so a lot of sales happen this weekend."
Friday night's fiesta included a parade of fleece and the modeling of alpaca fashion.
Colourbration continues on Saturday and Sunday at the Prince of Wales showground with judging throughout the weekend.
