HISTORY is well and truly against Leitchville-Gunbower when it takes on Lockington-Bamawm United in Saturday’s HDFL qualifying final at Toolleen.
The sides have met 10 times since the Bombers joined the HDFL in 2010, with the record 10-0 in favour of the Cats.
The Cats enter the finals series chasing their fourth flag in a row, but will have to take a different route through the first week of the finals, having previously finished on top of the ladder the past three years.
The Bombers claimed their highest ladder-finish in the HDFL of third, but have only won one of their past four games and were on the end of an upset loss to Huntly last week.
COACHES COMMENTS:
Adrian Dohnt (LBU) - “Training over the past two weeks has really lifted and the boys are all feeling good heading into the finals and looking forward to getting stuck into it.
“We’ve been fortunate enough to not have to play in the first week of the finals the past few years, so this is a bit different. But it’s all about being able to perform under pressure, which the boys have been able to do over the past few years.
“We’ve had some good tussles with Leitchville this year. Both games had been tight and we won’t be expecting anything different on Saturday.”
Marty Shadbolt (Leitchville-Gunbower) - “The past couple of weeks haven’t been our best, but we’ve put that behind us.
“Our aim at the start of the year was to finish top-three to give us the best chance at competing well in the finals series and we’ve been able to do that.
“Our two games against Lockington have both been close contests and they obviously have a lot of finals experience.
“The boys are up and about and keen to prove that we can compete with the top sides.”
