Three boys and three girls are gearing up to take on the talented bowlers from Ballarat, Mildura, Warrnambool and Geelong in the Junior Country Championships.

The youngest Bendigo bowler is Alyssa Spofforth who is 10-years-old, she will be joined by Shamaya Moignard-Grylls, brothers Jarrod and Jason Topp-Lowe and Georgina and Grace Fahy.

Georgina, a Victorian representative, will captain the side.

To qualify for the tournament, each bowler had to play four games with the three highest average scores for the boys and girls selected in the Bendigo team.

Last year, Bendigo won a silver medal at the prestigious tournament.

The juniors are now raising money to help travel to the two-day tournament in Warrnambool.

Fundraising committee member Kathleen Hammond said they were trying to make as much money as they could.

“We are having a dinner at the Schweppes Centre on August 31 at 6.30pm, with 50 per cent of the proceeds from the night coming back to us,” she said.  

“We are doing a raffle and selling lots of tickets, we are also calling for donations.”

The Junior Country Championships will be held in Warrnambool between September 27 and 28.
