Performers put away their costumes and decked the trades gear while setting up at the Prince of Wales Showground in Bendigo yesterday, putting together the big top from start to finish. 

The Great Moscow Circus is in town from Wednesday until August 24, with the Globe of Death expected to attract the most attention. 

The act lives up to its name, with as many as eight performers riding motorcycles inside a mesh sphere simultaneously.

Not many can claim they risk their lives for their job, but that's exactly the reality for those who live and work at the circus. 

Many of the performers hail from Brazil, Uzbekistan and Switzerland - with most starting at a tender age. 

Alfredo Silva is a sixth generation performer and has mastered the Globe of Death, as well as a firey knife-throwing act. 

He will join Anna Saranina, from Russia, to use spectacular choreographed moves and daring acts. 

Other performers include the Group of Risk, silk and tissue gymnast Oxana Zinchenko and artist Yuriy Abrcsimcv. 

Tickets are on sale now; an A reserve family pass costs $130, adult $45 and child $30.
