The ladder-leading North Bendigo went into the contest as hot favourite to beat the Bloods in the Heathcote District Football League's senior clash at Superior Roofing Oval.
It was a big weekend for North's grand final-winning senior and reserves teams of 40 years ago as they gathered in the Atkins Street social rooms on Friday night and then again on Saturday afternoon.
