Primary girls all set for first SSV football carnival

PONYTAILS and punt kicks will be in abundance on Tuesday, when Bendigo hosts a School Sport Victoria football carnival for primary-aged girls.

About a dozen teams from the Sandhurst, Campaspe and Goldfields division will battle for honours on the ovals at Catholic College in Junortoun.

It will be the first time SSV has held a football competition for primary girls in this area and comes amid growing interest in female footy across the region.

Among the schools taking part are Kangaroo Flat, Big Hill, Spring Gully, Eaglehawk North, Strathfieldsaye and Kennington.

Action gets under way at 10am and round robin matches will be played through until 2.30pm.

The primary boys football carnival will be held at the same venue on Wednesday.

Winning schools will represent the division at the Loddon Mallee regional finals in Swan Hill next month.
