The man was assaulted during an aggravated burglary at a Gisborne property this morning.
He was taken to hospital in a stable condition.
EARLIER: Police are searching for two men who burgled a house in Gisborne this morning.
Detectives from the Macedon Ranges Crime Investigation Unit are investigating the aggravated burglary and have been told two men forced entry into the premises in Heather Road about 4.40am.
The men, wearing balaclavas and armed with handguns and bats, were disturbed by the occupants of the home who awoke to find the burglars in a nearby room.
The men demanded money and ransacked the premises before fleeing in an unknown vehicle.
During the incident, a 47-year-old Gisborne man was assaulted and received non-life threatening injuries. He was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital and is in a stable condition.
The one other occupant, a 46-year-old Gisborne woman, was uninjured.
Detectives investigating the case are searching for the two male offenders who stole several electrical items during the burglary.
